Chamsa
Chamsas are everywhere these days as an amulet or good luck charm. Chamsa comes from the Hebrew word chamesh or number 5 which represents the five fingers on the hand. This may represent the loving hand of God. Sometimes there is an eye in the middle representing the eye of God's oversight.
We have embedded the word "Chai" which means life. We created our unity chamsa keeping in mind the families of Chabad of Poway, California. One precious soul (Lori Kaye), was returned to heaven while Rabbi Goldstein and others sustained permanent injury.
As we heard Rabbi Goldstein say the words, "Am Yisrael Chai" (the nation of Israel lives!), we knew what to do. This is what our "chai" represents.
With wishes and hopes for the ultimate world peace.
